The Nigeria Army Council has asked and recommended the release of Brigadier-General Enitan Ransome-Kuti from the custody. A confidential memo obtained also showed that the council has ordered a reduction in rank from Brigadier-General to Colonel as his his punishment and subsequently recommended that he be taken back and posted back into service.
Brigadier General Kuti was arrested and tried for cowardice in January 2015, accused of abandoning his military duty post while he was in Baga where he was commander of a joint multinational task force.
In 2014, Boko Haram terrorist group attacked his base and took over the armoury, the army court martial which tried Kuti also accused him of not accounting properly for weapons seized by Boko Haram militants at the base.

Since Enitan Ransome-kuti's conviction, the Brigadier General who son to one of Nigeria’s most prominent human rights activist, Beko Ransome-Kuti, had been placed under house arrest at one of the army barracks located in Abuja.
